Rubin family’s Pentland shifts from Brexit Britain to Ireland

Pentland Group, the British Rubin family-controlled owner of sports brands Speedo and Lacoste and majority owner of high street retailer JD Sports, has moved offshore because of Brexit.

However, the $9 billion group said its daily trade will stay in the UK and be taxed under UK jurisdiction.

Pentland consolidates global Speedo portfolio ahead of Olympics

British family business Pentland Group has acquired Speedo North America for $170 million, ahead of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics and the competition of many Speedo athletes.

The second-generation $3 billion group announced this week it had entered into a definitive agreement for the business with apparel company PVH Corp. Speedo International licensed the Speedo trademark to a PVH subsidiary for use in North America and the Caribbean.

Lee Shau-Kee, Hong Kong’s second-wealthiest man, has retired as chairman of Henderson Land Development, handing over the reins of his property company to his two sons.

In a stock exchange filing, Henderson said Lee, who turned 90 in March, stepped away “due to his advanced age” and would be succeeded by his two sons Peter Lee Ka-kit and Martin Lee Ka-shing, who will take over as joint chairmen and managing directors.

Pentland Group third-gen Andy Rubin has been promoted to chairman of the family business’s division, responsible for a stable of fashion brands, including Speedo, Boxfresh and Canterbury.

Pentland Group third-gen Andy Rubin has been promoted to chairman of the family business’s division, responsible for a stable of fashion brands, including Speedo, Boxfresh and Canterbury.

Rubin is set to take on the newly created role at Pentland Brands in January, with the current chief operating officer, Andy Long, stepping in to take over as chief executive.

Long has been at Pentland Brands for nine years, following roles at Procter & Gamble and Boots, while Rubin has been in the family business for 23 years.
